AWIA symposium: The societal uptake of CA and DP research
29-30 October 2026, Hogeschool Utrecht & Utrecht University
Call for abstracts▲
The 18th AWIA symposium will take place in Utrecht on 29 & 30 October 2026. We welcome prof. dr. Sally Wiggins (Linköping University) as our keynote speaker.
This year’s theme is ‘The societal uptake of CA and DP research’. In conversation analysis and discursive psychology, we often look at the uptake of utterances to gauge the value of initial turns. But what is the uptake of our scientific work in society? In what ways do our research results benefit society in a broad sense? And how do we know what change has come about based on our work? What types of applications, new perspectives, unexpected knowledge, etc. do we contribute as CA and DP researchers? These questions are particularly relevant today, as recent social, communicative, and technological developments offer new opportunities to demonstrate how our research can make a meaningful difference both within and beyond academia. We invite both presentations on new projects, and reflections on how previous work has been received.
We encourage both novice and advanced researchers, based in the Netherlands and Flanders, to submit an abstract on their interaction analytic research. Abstracts have a maximum length of 500 words (including any data, excluding reference list) and must be written in English. To enable the keynote speaker to participate in the discussion, the language of communication during the symposium will be English. You can submit your abstract until 17 April 2026.
Notifications of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent in the first half of June 2026. Should you have any questions, please contact Sybolt Friso (s.friso@uu.nl).
