THE DUTCH ANNUAL LINGUISTICS DAY
The Dutch Annual Linguistics Day (Grote Taaldag, 27 January 2026)▲
The Dutch Annual Linguistics Day is a joint initiative of the Dutch Linguistic Society (AVT), the Dutch Society for Applied Linguistics (Anéla) and the Netherlands Graduate School of Linguistics (LOT). Traditionally, the Dutch Annual Linguistics Day is a day during which we meet up with all our colleagues from the Netherlands and Flanders and inform each other about current research in (applied) linguistics.
This year, the Dutch Annual Linguistics Day took place on Tuesday 27 January, 2026 at Science Park (Utrecht University). The program was filled with lectures, coffee breaks, the annual Language Gala, and an inspiring keynote by Jimmy van Rijt.
As usual, at the end of the day, during the Language Gala, the AVT/Anéla PhD Dissertation Prize and the LOT Popularization Prize were awarded.

Gijs Leenders (Universiteit Utrecht) won this year’s AVT/Anéla-PhD Dissertation Prize for his dissertation Onderzoek naar contextrijk, taalcontrastief en procesgericht grammaticaonderwijs in de vakken Nederlands, Engels en Duits.

PUBLICATIONS
After the Dutch Annual Linguistics Day, AVT members can submit a written version of their presentation for Nota Bene, a brand new, international and peer-reviewed journal published by John Benjamins. Nota Bene has a short publication process: each journal issue will be published no longer than six months after completion of the review procedure. An advantage is that an issue is accessible as open access via John Benjamins’ website two years after its publication.
Anéla members can submit a written version of their presentation for The Dutch Journal of Applied Linguistics (Dujal, fully open access).
